Multi-Sine EIS for Early Detection of PEMFC Failure Modes

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is a powerful technique that can be used to detect small changes in electrochemical systems and subsequently identify the source of change. While promising, analysis often non-intuitive time-consuming, where collection times single EIS spectrum reach several minutes. To circumvent long associated with traditional measurements, multi-sine was proposed which simultaneous application many frequencies reduce acquisition time less than minute. This shortened opens possibility use as real-time diagnostic tool for monitoring state-of-health commercial fuel cell systems. In this work, single-cell proton exchange membrane (PEMFC) characterised using EIS, by establishing steady-state response under baseline conditions before systematically changing operating dynamic response. Our initial results demonstrate full spectra, encompassing frequency range from 50 kHz 0.5 Hz, collected analysed simple equivalent circuit models s. It shown timeframe sufficiently short capture conditions, thereby validating in-situ fault detection during operation.
